On the first weekend of June, the grounds of Blenheim Palace turn into a triathlon course. Swimmers start in the lake below Vanbrugh’s Grand Bridge, cyclists ride closed roads through the park, and runners finish in front of the palace where Winston Churchill was born. Supertri Blenheim Palace returns on Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 June 2027, and entries are already open.

For most of the people taking part it is not a professional race. The weekend is built around short distances that a first-timer can finish, with relays for groups and friends, and elite racing on the same course. Supertri says the event is "more than a race, it’s a full weekend experience", and in 2026 around 6,000 people raced over the two days.

The races

Every race uses the same three legs: a swim in the palace lake, a bike course on closed roads through the grounds and a run through the parkland to the finish.

The SuperSprint is the one to choose for a first triathlon. The Sprint is the standard distance of the weekend, and Supertri says most Sprint athletes finish in 75 to 120 minutes. Both Sprints and SuperSprints can be raced alone or as a relay team, and the Sunday SuperSprint also has a youth category.

The Weekend Warrior is the unusual one. Athletes complete as many sprint-distance triathlons as they can, scored by the number of full triathlons finished each day. At the 2026 edition Jonny Brownlee, the Olympic champion, set the Weekend Warrior record in front of the crowd.

Any road-worthy bike is allowed, whether a road, hybrid or mountain bike, as long as it meets British Triathlon rules. Clubs and teams can join Supertri’s team programme, which gives members a discount code and a team area at the finish.

Water, weather and kit

Blenheim Palace gives early June temperatures of about 13-20°C, with the lake at around 16-19°C. Wetsuits are strongly recommended, and there is a wetsuit rental partner linked from the Supertri page. The bike course has rolling terrain with some climbing, and it is closed to traffic and marshalled.

Watching from the side

You do not need to race to go. Supertri sells separate spectator tickets for Saturday and Sunday, and Blenheim Palace says visitors can also watch with an Annual Pass or a day ticket. The race village runs a finish line festival with food, drinks and live music, open to athletes and spectators.

On the 2026 timetable, the professional men’s and women’s races were on the Sunday morning, before the age-group Sprint waves. The 2027 timetable will be confirmed by Supertri, so check the schedule before you plan the day.

Dogs are welcome in the grounds, but not in the palace itself or the formal gardens.

What a Supertri race looks like

Blenheim is the mass-participation side of Supertri. The professional side is the Pro Series, whose 2026 final was raced in the harbour at St Helier on Jersey, and Maria Bregman photographed it for Creativity’s UK. The pictures show what makes the format easy to watch: short legs, a start where every athlete has a numbered place, and transitions in full view of the crowd.

In the transition area each athlete has a box, and a helmet left outside it costs a five-second penalty. Over a race this short, that can be the difference between a podium and fourth place.

Why Supertri is at Blenheim

Supertri began as Super League Triathlon, a series of short, fast races for elite athletes and television. It was founded by Michael D’hulst, the investor Leonid Boguslavsky and four-time world champion Chris McCormack. The company has since moved into mass-participation racing, buying established races where anyone can enter. 2026 was the first year Supertri ran Blenheim, and it has since announced a second UK event, in Brighton.

Adam Leitch, Supertri’s communications director, told Creativity’s UK that the company wants "thirty thousand people racing across our events, and ten thousand of those being first-time athletes". Blenheim is where that goal is most visible: Olympians and complete beginners race the same course on the same weekend.
